Wire guage help!

This thread isn't really a debate but more what you would personally suggest in terms of cables and speaker wire for my system.

My system for now (Rotel RCD885 > Marantz 2338b > Advent 1's)

I've been doing alot of reading and I'm not sure what wire I should use this time around. I've been advised to use thick unshielded lamp cord for the speaker wire. I'd imagine the smaller guage the better. Wouldn't lamp cord be too thick? The speakers sit very close to the reciever so I don't really need that much wire. Like the speakers are within foot or 2 of the reciever. I'm really curious what guage wire I should use. Also, would it be bad too have too little wire?

Personally I been using #14 to #18. Mostly I use #16 with fine result on a 100wpc. #16 does noticeably sound more lively and more bottoms than a #22 that came stock with 100wpc receiver. A lamp cord is typically #18. It will do the job. Some people like to use #12 or #10 which is pretty thick and more expensive. I would use #12 or #10 for much larger than 100wpc. Yet other people like to use magnet wire which is more expensive as well, I personally prefer not to go that route because there's a risk of insulation rubbing to bare wire to short out the amps.
