Im looking for advice or guidance on how to wire my setup. I have a pair of KEF ls50's that are rated 8ohms (but may see as low as 3.2ohms). I also have a lf500 8" subwoofer. I will be combining all this with a Yamaha receiver (RX A780). The room is about 12'x14'. If someone could give me clear instruction on how to wire this set up properly so that I can get the most of my products without risking any damage that would be great. I've done much reading on parallel vs series wiring and how the two techniques effect impedance but somewhere along the research I'm getting confused and stressed out that I'll wreck something that was relatively expensive to me.
I think that if I wire the ls50's in parallel I put much more strain on the amp taking them from 8ohms(each?) to 4ohms and my amp is rated at 8 ohms only. This sounds risky to me. But if I wire them in series the opposite takes affect and the 8ohms(each?) turns to 16ohms? And that sounds like I'm not getting what I should be out of the speakers.
I'm also unclear on where to actually hook up the speakers at the back of the amp. The amp is more geared for a 7.1 surround sound system but I will be trying to set it up as a 2.1 set up. So would the ls50's go into the "front speakers" section? Will the amp understand know to send all the sound through those outputs or will it be trying to put signal out to the empty outputs? Also will the amp be able to handle putting out enough power to the speakers and the subwoofer? Finally I was thinking about either 14 or 16 gauge wiring based on stuff I had read, any thoughts on that?
I know these are very rookie questions and maybe my setup isn't ideal for everyone or even most but it is what it is and any constructive help would very much appreciated so I can set up my system and enjoy it with confidence and have it last a long time.
