Hey guys, I'm making some bookshelf speakers with some salvaged drivers. I'm using two 4Ω 3W drivers and a single 8Ω 2W tweeter in each. 2 of the speakers I have salvaged drivers from before were a pair of Lafayette Minuette Mark II's, and I also salvaged the brilliance controls from them. I've been messing around with different wire-ups (not with my amp, just a spliced 3.5mm cable and an ipod) and have also been recording the impedance with a multimeter. I know that these controls are really just relative volume controls, but I figured it would save me some money to put towards crossovers for some 4-way towers I'm building. My problem is that the signal on the tweeter output is too low. There is a 2.5µ 50v non-polar electrolytic cap from the main in + to the tweeter out +, and I'm okay with replacing this, I just don't know what to replace it with. Currently it draws a total of 8Ω with an 8Ω load on both connections. However the best scenario for me (that I've found) is having a 12Ω load on the tweeter line (one 4Ω driver and the 8Ω tweeter) and a 4Ω load (the other 4Ω driver) on the woofer line. This draws an average of about 10Ω total, but by modifying that cap that could be changed. Again, I don't know what size cap I'd need to replace it with though.

Wait a moment, nothing can 'draw' an ohm load. A load is a load or here better a resistance. That is not your impedance. You can only plot an impedance by measuring the voltage drop and current (which can be drawn) and transfer it to an impedance load over different frequencies. Ohms law would be your calculation.
The other thing is, what is your problem? Your high frequency output level is too low?
What you do right now is changing the impedance your amp will see when you put another driver parallel to existing ones. That also changes your crossover frequency when you leave the cap unchanged. Can you elaborate on that a little?
