McIntosh 1700 Receiver (circa 1970s) Cabinet has scratches. $200

JBL Lancer 99 Speakers -- The wood on one cabinet has water damage. They both have some scratches. One speaker has a grill that needs to be reattached. The other is missing a grill (but one can be purchased on eBay for $9.00). $200

The seller just got back to me. The MAC-1700 is mine for $200. I had to pass on the JBL Lancer 99s.

I'll report more after I pick the 1700 up.

Good luck, pm! Sounds like a great deal........I guess this proves there is such a thing as karma. :D

Thanks! I can put it in the space where the H/K 500 was!

I'll either flip this, or save it as a gift for one of the children. But for awhile, I'll just enjoy this odd tube tuner/ss amp receiver.

Got any pix of that H/K 505-500 combo yet?

Mac-1700

  1. The "scratched cabinet" was a broken cabinet (one slant leg gone).
  2. Bass and Treble pots were shot and would need replacing.
  3. Hadn't been powered-up in 20 years.
  4. Very greasy-dirty inside, with signs of a clumsy repair having been done in the past.

The $200 went back in my wallet.

Too bad I'm not in Texas. I could use a parts unit for mine, which is fantastic cosmetically and sound-wise (recently recapped and brought up to exceed spec by a Mac technician), but it has a transformer that hums. Right now I'm using a very large orange c-clamp to keep it quiet! (looks ugly, but it's far enough inside my cabinet so that you can't see it from the front).

If I were in Texas I'd make a lowball offer for it as long as the transformer didn't hum, and I'd part out the rest on ebay.

If anyone in the area is considering getting it as a parts unit, I'd be interested in the transformer.

Pm, here's a few.......not very good, though.
Nice lookin' pair. I really am happy you got 'em!

Nice lookin' Advent 300, too!

As for my Karma, it was more than covered by my being able to walk away from the deal and not being swept up in "what if and maybe".

The guy was REALLY trying to load it in my car without my looking at it closely. It had belonged to his deceased father and been stored in a basement for twenty years.

I didn't try and low-ball him because he had plenty of other takers. The MOST I would have given him for it was was $100 to part out, and I really am not interested in another major project.
