Wollensak 8-track player?!?

Well, it's not an analog dial! (Which some players had) Since 8 tracks were way before digital as we think of it, it's digital as in digital clock as opposed to a dial.:yes:
 
That Deck Is a Keeper for Sure. I have an 8080 model. Dont fire it up much but it is fun to play with once in a while. With a good tape it blows cassete off themap for sound quality.
 
Well, I added it into the mix... It is sitting under a modern tuner and DVD palyer (for playing CD's), and next to an old Garrard TT and Stromberg-Carlson receiver. This all plays through some S-C speakers for a nice, vintage sound! I only have three Ray Charles tapes and a Jim Croce tape, but I'll get more with time.

I'm going to be very vigilant with this format... only the most interesting tapes will come into my home! I already have about 3k cd's, 1k vinyl, and a couple hundred cassettes. I don't need a giant stack of 70's nostalgia in this tiny home!!! So, where can I find a list of worthy tapes to hunt down? Any special tracks not found on other formats, amazing artwork, generally rare, etc?

Well, I would start with the music you like. There are many tapes that have hidden tracks or songs that were extended to take up room on the tape. One right off the top of my head is the Pink Floyd, Animals tape that features a guitar solo by Snowy White that links Pt.1 to Pt.2, this is only found on the 8 track version. Other ones that are rare and hard to find are usually the record club releases that were released after 1983, 1983 being one of the last years where 8 tracks were still available through stores. Foreign made 8 tracks such as big name bands that were made and released in the UK, Australia and so on. I do believe there is a list of most to all of the post 83 record club released 8 tracks, I'll have to dig that address up. While you are out looking for 8-tracks, keep your eyes peeled for quad 8-tracks! Quad 8 tracks have a little notch in the upper left corner, they usually sell for a minimum of $5 and go up from there on eBay depending on band popularity and rarity. Even if you don't have a quad deck, I would still get them if you find them. A long time ago, I wrote a bunch of instructions on how to repair 8 tracks to a CD and I recently created a Google Site with it adding to it from what I have learned since then. I'll try to find some of those lists that include the record club releases, rare tapes and tapes that include hidden tracks.

Just to add: Sometimes, just for fun, I like to look up 8 tracks that are selling for more than $50 on eBay using their price setting options. I also like to look up completed listings just to see how much some tapes have gone for.
