Wollensak 8075 8-Track Player/Recorder

This morning ... picked up a Wollensak 8075 8-Track Player/Recorder with Dolby Noise Reduction, VU meters, Tape Equalization and Separate L/R Recording Level Controls.

Everything lights up ... interestingly the On/Off switch is labeled ... FM Listen ... when I flipped it on, I could hear what sounded like a motor running ... the sound stopped when I hit the Pause lever.

Rather large for 8-Track deck ... 20"W x 4"H x 10"D ...

Stole the pic below off eBay (don't know what happened to the pic I took ... it's floating around on my HD somewhere).

20 some odd years ago I was an audio-visual technician for the largest convention services on the West Coast ..... Peter Corvallis Productions ....
I would go to various functions and set up equipment .... Eat all of the free food at the convention .... go on to the next munchfest .... Anyway ... WE used plenty of Wollensak equipment commercially and beat the living daylights out of it. There can be no tougher equipment ..........

Welcome to the club, it's incredible how many products 3M has their hands on. I bought one on a whim because it had the recording function. Haven't had time to really try it out but it still works. My only complaint is the silkscreening has really worn off in a few places, must have been part of speakerlust's equipment.....Someday when it's cleaned up I'll throw it on the rack and pull out that Elvis Cartridge...

Thats pretty funny that you did that 20 years ago. Tomorow I start a tour of 10 cities doing the A/V thing. Nothing like the feeling of setting up at 7:00am and having your pick of 10 dozen pastries,breads and muffins, assorted Jams, cream cheese, fresh sqeezed orange juice, 8 gallons of Starbucks, a fresh fruit sculpture, granola, cereal and yogourt.

Anyway, I used to have a Wollensack tube reel to reel that was cool looking, but quite the boat anchor.
 
I've got a Wollensak 8056A that's, I gather, the same thing as the 8075, but without Dolby. I've been meaning to fire it up and test it, but I haven't yet found the time. It certainly looks like serious gear. Could it make 8-tracks worth listening to?
