Wood case for Marantz 5020 cassette deck

I have seen various references to the model number of the walnut case for the Marantz 5020 deck, so I am not sure which number is correct. Does anyone know the correct WC number or where I can purchase a replica?

I had seen that case identified for the 5020 player. I have a 2238 receiver with an OEM case. That case measures 15 inches deep to match the depth of the receiver. I think the case is a WC-22. If so then that case seems too deep for the cassette player since it is only 11.5 inches deep.

I read somewhere that the 5020 took a WC-153. Any information on that case?

If it is being displayed near a receiver in a WC-22, it will look much better if it is also in a WC-22. The fact that the back of the deck is 4" short of the case can't be seen from the front. It looks like the proper case. I bought a 2245 new in 1972, and a 5020 in about 1974. Both were in WC-22's and looked great together.

Thanks. So it looks like the 122 designates the three piece case instead of a cabinet.

By that logic the WC-153 would be a three piece case version of a WC-53 cabinet, but I have not seen any reference to a cabinet with that number.

For a receiver, I would think that the three piece case would provide better cooling but not applicable to the cassette deck since it does not have any ventilation requirement.
 
Maybe the WC-22U is shorter? I have a reproduction WC-22 type on a 5020. It's shorter without a vent screen. I put a model 120 scoped tuner in a WC-22. It's not as deep as a receiver, but it's not really a problem. I also had the same
WC-22 on a 5220 tape deck until it died.
 
My 5030b came with what I believe is a WC-121, I'd rather have the WC-22 style case.

If you look at the 25th anniversary brochure (1977?), it has all the receivers photographed in the WC-122 case, and they're the then-new silver-face B series. Believe that's the correct case for those models. The cassette decks I've come across with cases had a smaller version of the WC-122 on them (WC-121?).

Believe Marantz changed the case design when they introduced the silver-faced B models.

Haven't had luck finding a WC-122 for my 2252B. Finally used the scrap from my record shelf/stereo stand (CP#1) to build a variation of a WC-122.
At the same time they changed the cases, they changed the top cover of the receivers, taking out the side vents. My 2252B doesn't have side vents, so I didn't cut any on the sides of the case.

But if those models can't be found, it fits a WC-22 perfectly except for the length

The WC-15T is the full cabinet version. A WC-153 is a three sided case. Since the first two numbers are the same, maybe the WC-153 will fit. I think I would rather have a three sided case since that is what I have on my receiver. If I can’t figure out the right number AND find one for sale, then it looks like a WC-22 is an option unless someone could build a WC-122
 
Go ahead, call me a looney, but I think the proper case is required. Have to send some muscle to get Aaron on board with a WC-122 kit:whip:
