I have an 1180DC in what I believe to be an original wc-110 wood top case, pic attached. I’ve seen other cases with the metal vents, including the manual pic but this unit just has slots cut out. They are very thin and I’m worried they do not vent well. I know the 1180dc runs pretty hot but after about 30 minutes of running it’s extremely hot, I can feel the heat around the console and smell the unit. Should I be worried or is the venting sufficient? I’ve had no luck tracking down a metal case and not a big fan of the non original eBay wood cases.
Nice case, but doesn't look too efficient with regard to circulation. Not familiar with the 110, but the 122 had side vents as well as the vents on the top. I've seen photos of a 110 type case where there are two open rectangles where the slots are on your case, and they had wire mesh fitted in so it was flush with the wood on top. Looked very well done and like it would "breath" easily.
What's the situation on the bottom? the idea is to have the hot air vent out the top and draw cooler air in through the bottom. So the bottom should have an opening/s under the heat sinks.

Has the standard metal bottom but not a ton of venting. The case you’re describing sound like the pictured one in my manual and I agree, it looks very efficient. The metal case seams to vent on the sides as well, which I think would really help since the power board is on the side but just not having any luck finding one.
It’s a shame because the case is mint and I have a matching 21xx tuner case but it’s already a tight fit in my console and I can feel the heat transferring through the console onto the records.
Yeah that is not near enough ventilation in that console. You need a minimum of 3 or 4 inches above the amp. For low volume it may be alright, but I would never crank it much past 9:00 like that for very long.

I agree, I was hopeful since the tuner is shorter than the amp it would vent out the back but I've removed the tuner for now. I'm hopeful that if I can source a metal case I should have enough venting to run the tuner stacked. I figure I can space the tuner up another inch to the top, the metal case has side venting and should get me some room on the sides plus there is no back to that shelf. Regardless, I'll be monitoring the temp till I feel comfortable.
I've come to the conclusion that whatever wc-110 case that came with my amp does not have sufficient ventilation for the larger 1180DC. This unit was purchased overseas on a military base so that might have to do with the different case, but I haven't seen another like it.

I own Marantz 1515 and 1550 stereo receivers. I see from the original list that the wooden case that was supposed to be for the 15xx series was the WCV-115, but those are no where to be found. Has anyone on here ever tried fitting the 15xx series into a WC-22 unit? They appear to be almost identical measurements. Thank you in advance!

B.10-0: Model 10 and 10B, these were somewhat different than WC1
B.07-0: Model 7/7T (without vent, with hole in the bottom for travel screw on model 7.
WC15T: shorter WC22 for Model 5020, 5220, 5200...
I scanned this thread and did not see the model 24 cabinet number.
I want to match mine up with a model 16 (which uses the WC-2 cabinet)
Did the model 24 use the WC-1? or maybe the WC-2 ?

I have a model 16 and model 24 which need cabinets. While agree that the WC-2 is the better fir for the model 16, could it be that the wc-1 is also usable? This link suggests "yes" though it could be in error? (at very bottom - no affiliation)
The bottom of the wc-1 apparently has several mounting holes with one pair looking to work with the shallow depth of the model 16.
Here is a photo of a repro cabinet from vintagehifiaudio.com (no affiliation) that shows what I mean
Did Marantz ship the model 16 in the wc-1 before the wc-2 came out?
I would prefer both in wc-1 cabinets if that was actually an option shipped by Marantz.

to be honest- I do not not think, that any WC-1 will fit the Marantz 16 og 16B (or 15 for that matter). The WC-1 is deep and even the holes pre-drilled for alternative sized units will not accomodate the very short/shallow models 15 and 16's. Furthermore - if you install the 16B in a WC-1 is will become very difficult to connect and disconnect the wiring in the back of the unit. I do not understand why that page writes what it does. Maybe they are not fully informed?
So .... I think the WC-2 has to be the WC for the 15's and 16s.
