Woofer Re-foaming Article

As if there weren't enough instructions how to re-foam a woofer online already, I've written my own little article about the subject, which you can find here. It explains why certain things are done one way or another in a bit more depth than most other articles, and I have also added some pretty decent photos. The article forms the start of a little music section of my personal web site fmueller.com, which so far has mostly been related to cichlid keeping. Any feedback on the article, especially if something I said is obviously BS to anybody who has re-foamed more speakers than me - that would be more than one pair - would be especially appreciated :yes:

Sorry about that guys. It should be working now. I am using Word Press as a content management system for that web site, and after designing a page I need to click 'publish' to allow people to access that page. Otherwise only I can see it, but since I can see it either way, that's a little detail I sometimes overlook :nerd:

Looks and reads good to me. Just as all of your experience is with Infinity, mine has all been with Cerwin-Vega, seven woofers so far.

The only "tool" I used that you didn't mention was a D cell battery hooked to short run of speaker wire. Since I was working on Cerwin-Vega woofers with paper cones and the with the surrounds glued direct to the metal frame, I could use the battery rig connected in one direction to pull the cone all the way in while I cleaned the woofer basket, then reversed the wires to push the cones out clear of the basket when I cleaned them up (I used isopropyl alcohol). The DC signal was also useful in keeping the voice coil centered while gluing on the surround, although I did test them with a signal before the glue set.

Thanks for the input SA-708. I've seen the battery thing mentioned, but never really figured out how it works. Your post is the best explanation I have come across yet :thmbsp:

As I said, I have only re-foamed a single pair of speakers so far. My next pair will be JBL Decade 26 (Model L26). Maybe I hook them up to a battery just for kicks
