Work flow for LP to flac to portable player. Hello audio fans. I have discovered t

Hello audio fans. I have discovered that My Sansa Clip Zip can use flac files. So, that sent me on a quest to start loading my music in that format. Converting CD’s is an easy one step, with EAC. But, LP conversation to flac, no so, as I have discovered.

Here is the current work flow I’m using.

1. Spinitagain to create a digital file. However, Spinitagain will only output to mp3 or wave files, in 16 and 24 bit are available through my Creative 24Bit sound card. Spinitagain claims they have no interest in adding flac.

So, all LP's are converted to 88/24bit files, for preservation and editing purposes.

2. Winamp is used to convert the 24bit wav files to 24bit flac files. Have not found a way to convert to 16bit flac at this step. My Sansa clip will only read 16bit flac.

3. SwitchSoundFile is used to convert 24bit flac to 16bit.

4. Mp3tag is used to tag the 16bit flac files and moved to my Sansa to enjoy.

If anyone knows a simpler work flow, that uses freeware, I'd love to hear.

Spinitagain is some nice software, I bough years ago and like using, it's just recently, I discovered that my Sansa player can use flac files. So, I added a 32gb card and started enjoying my LP's with flac files for portable use.

Thank you for any suggestions and comments .

For the last few years I've been ripping LP's to .wav files using Audacity (freeware) and then using FREAC (freeware) to convert .wav files to FLAC. If necessary, I use MP3tag to edit the metadata.

When I bought a ClipZip in 2012 it was primarily because it plays FLAC files. I've also added a 32Gb SD card.

Audacity can do it all in one step. You might have to download a plugin if I recall but it can also mix down to flac in any bitrate.

It's important to use good tools to go from 24 bit to 16 bit, you want software that uses proper "dithering" to achieve the 16 bits, and not just "truncate" the extra bits with brute-force.

Could you give me a suggestion. What should I look for, to ensure proper dithering ?
