Working on a pair of KLH Model Twenty Three - help me out.

Most seem to suggest not attempting to redope the surrounds. It's probably extremely difficult to get them exactly back to factory specs and I can't think of a good way of measuring to know if you did, and if you are off enough, you'll change the woofers Fs, and generally the speakers overall sound. If you are off, I doubt there is any way to reverse what's been done.

I guess in a nutshell, I'd leave them be, and I did with the pair I had for a while. I just replaced the one simple cap in each crossover.

On the other hand, there's a KLH service bulletin that tells the techs to re-coat the surrounds any time any speaker comes in for any reason. Apparently they felt that, as long as the correct stuff (which they shipped to the service facilities) was used, applying too much wasn't a concern.

Almost looks like someone pushed the metal screen in on one of your tweeters. Is that the one where you here the distortion? Maybe use allen key in several spots and pull the metal back away from the driver? :scratch2:

That can certainly happen on those. The aluminum screen can get pushed in so that it comes in contact with one of the little coil wires on the face of the cone.

Yes the tweet in the picture is the culprit. I'll try pulling it out as you suggest. I did press on it at random spots to see if the grate was loose. That did not change the sound. I'll try pulling.

search the econowave thread...there was someone who did an E-wave KLH...can't remember if it was a 6,17,20, or 23
Will do. Thanks.
