World Audio KAT6550

Recently completed what has turned out to be a fabulous amplifier - the World Audio Designs KAT6550. 40W of Push-Pull amplification driving my B&W Nautilus 804 speakers sounds sublime! Here are a couple of piccies. As you can see, it's a complicated build with alot of wiring and components to solder in place. But the end result was well worth it.

Wow Yellow!
That looks like a great kit with premium parts and laid out pretty well. From the looks this isn't the 1st thing you have built. Dual rectifiers?

Actually, it is the first amp I have built......having said that, I used to work for B&W Loudspeakers as a production engineer, and for Aura Designs, who made amps and CD-Players between 1991 and 1999 (I think?).

It's a lovely amp, and if you need a bit of grunt, then this kit is great. All components you see are standard stuff supplied with the kit, except for the thick, white input wire. That's my own co-ax cable, which is good, but could be bettered easily....that's the next upgrade, alond with Black Gates, PIO signal caps, PP PSU caps, Shottky Diode modification to the PSU and Tantulum/Kiwame resistors........that's DIY for you!!!!!

yep....it's quite a "sensual" piece of kit!!!!! Hope you agree!!!!

The rectifiers are 5U4G's and the power-valves are Svetlana 6550C. The two little valves are input/phase-splitters (Mullard E80CF's).

Very nice.
