World Cup 2010 In South Africa ......

This WE is from a supposedly expert in soccer, what I call a band wagon expert. As long as his team wins (nobody knows which team, and he does not know which team either, until the end, that is), it is the only team that can play soccer, and the most perfect.

I don't think you are being fair to fans of the game. I for one have been a life long fan of Brazil. They got knocked out. Was I supposed to stop watching? Were only fans of the remaining teams the only ones who should be allowed to watch the remaining games?
Germany, who I thought was the best team standing coming into the final four
was playing Spain, so I watched. After 20 minutes it was clear that Spain was a very skilled team and was playing keep away from one of the best teams on the globe. By the end of the match I was rooting for Spain and felt they would win the tourney.
As I was not a fan of Spain going into the tourney was I not allowed to become one or watch their matches?

Every team that wins picks up fan support, that's natural. It translates into dollars. Four years ago when Italy won I had a business interest in them and I can tell y0u I made a very nice piece of change on their victory. I am not Italian, is that not allowed either?

It was a great tournament. I enjoyed it throughly even if "my team" did not win. Sorry some of the sore loser types cannot.

I'll take a fan of the game over a fan of one team anyday. Guess folks are just different. I can live with that.

My girlfriend picked Spain from the beginning. I picked Germany, being as that's where I trace my lineage to (seemed like a good reason, though I rooted for USA, too). She was backing Spain last WC, as well, and went to a Spanish Tapas bar this morning to watch the game...she even got on the news, as she had Viva Espana in big red stickers down her arm. She's about the happiest person I know right now. Its amazing how much joy something half a world away can bring people. I'm happy they won. During the Germany match, I saw that they were indeed the better team, at least that day there were. So I was backing them as well. None of my teams were in it, but it was nice to see the passion of any of the teams trying to make it to the top.

Hi Ed,
You got my post wrong, or you read me wrong. I know exactly what you mean, and if I may say so, I think you are a great fan of soccer in general. You are right, if your team is knockout of the tournament, you keep on watching if you truly love soccer as a sport. Now nothing wrong to pick a team and trow jokes at each-others about your choice of team, it's only in good fun.

Please read a few post before mine, and you might understand some of my comments, and even these comments have no great malice in them anyway, just making fun of some comments in general.

As for Brasil, even if I'm not a fan of that team, it is certainly one of the greatest team around. I was very surprised to see them lose, I couldn't believe it at first.
You know I was expecting Germany and Brasil in the final, wrong on both count, go figure.

good, so it's ok to enjoy the tourney even if your team is knocked out.:scratch2: Is this ok in the NCAA basketball tourney as well? (as long as you don't lose to much money)

Basketball, and football (American or Canadian), no ideas, I don't care or like these sports, my sons do, but not me. But to answer your question, usually people who watch Basketball, in general, only like one team, weird eh.

My sports are, Hockey, La Crosse, Soccer, Rugby, Boxing, and (don't laugh) Curling.
Hockey start on the 7 of October 2010, can't wait. As for Hockey, I like the sport in general, but only support two teams, Les Habitants, :thmbsp:and Boston:thmbsp:. I can't stand Toronto:thumbsdn: and most of the Southern US teams.:thumbsdn:

Natually the outcome was not what I had hoped, or picked. However, that said the better team won, no question about it. For Spain it was a must win and for Netherlands it was a take no prisoners attitude, which is not the same as a winning attitude. Robben should be deported to the U.S.A. for having blown two opportunities. He can then put his talents to good use, seeing how he wasn't able to when it mattered most.

Congrats to Spain, excellent team, excellent win. I have to say, like my father, the third place match was a more entertaining match.

Been a joy having this thread.

North Korean coach was punished for "betraying" Kim Jong-un

North Korea's football team has been shamed in a six-hour public inquisition and the team's coach has been accused of "betraying" the reclusive leader's heir apparent (Kim Jong-un - a son of Kim Jong-il) following their failure at the World Cup, according to reports.

The team's coach, Kim Jong-hun (no relation to Kim Jong-un), was reportedly forced to become a builder and has been expelled from the Workers' Party of Korea.
