World's BEST AC Outlets.....MAESRTO AC Outlets ???

Did you wrap teflon tape around the prongs of the plugs as you usually do? Was wondering if this is needed when using a Maestro.

Yes, I'm still putting the teflon tape on my ac prongs. Great tweak too! The power lines do vibrate A LOT and this tweak helps dampen those vibrations in the power lines and lowers the noise floor. This tweak takes the maestro outlets to a whole new level !.. Here's pictures of the teflon tape tweak.... http://www.audioasylum.com/audio/tweaks/messages/16/165450.html

This tweak has brought this thread to a whole new level, IMHO.

:lurk:

You're not going to try it, finnbow?

I am. I have some tape left over from a plumbing project. Why not? Nothing to loose and it'll cost me zip.

Ok, now this is starting to make a little more sense, at least as far as theoretical reasons for tweaking go. Some companies offer outlet wall plates that are supposed to dampen vibrations - some are made from carbon fiber and very expensive, out of my range to try actually. So I have no idea if this works, or if there's anything to the idea.

However, I'm not sure why Teflon tape was automatically chosen. I have some of that too for making additional strain relief in my cables, but it seems to me that silicon would be at least one better option. Of course, I have a bunch of that around in tubular form, again for the aforementioned cables.

Nope. Laziness and skepticism prevail at Chez Finnbow.

At least we'll get Gary's point of view on it. I have a feeling if it does do anything some intense listening will be required to detect it. I suppose I should try the silicone thing, but not tonight, as I too and being lazy. :smoke:

I'm curious about the quality of the teflon tape used. HFSG purchased his at Walmart. Maybe a "boutique" teflon tape would give even better results with the Maestro's. Or maybe even use the yellow teflon tape that's rated for gas line threads?

Oh gosh, did I forget to tell you guys I use teflon tape on all my spikes? Been doing it for years, it just makes a better contact. Then again, I never could tell if the tweak works because I always seem to be doing tweaks in bunches.

I like the yellow tape, it seems to be easier to work with.

Yeh, but the wavelength of the light emanating from the yellow tape interferes with the lower octaves of aboriginal didgeridoo music. Big problem. I'd use duct tape.

Make sure you use the $39.00 cover plate over the receptacle, and the $9.99 screw to hold it on. I've heard it helps your system sound better.:D

I was kinda hoping HFSG would drop in and talk more about wiring of the Maestro outlets and teflon tape. Just found another comment of his on an audio website, and would love to have him elaborate.

"What does putting teflon tape on the ac prongs do? It cleans up that very dirty ac power a little.....I also put teflon tape on all my inside wiring in all my gear...my TV too."

Just how many new levels are there, anyway?
Actually, he's just getting started . Taping up all the wires would take forever! Maybe I should just stick with the Maestro?

I wondered how this thread (given its start) had reached such a length. I thought perhaps it became filled with humor or sarcasm, and decided to catch up on it. Having read it, now I can only wonder how I lived without it so car in my audio life... I can hardly wait to implement all these ideas, and find out what I've been missing.

Seriously, this has been better than I expected. THANK YOU, folks, for this thread. The coolest part is that I already have teflon tape on hand, so I don't even have to wait to start benefiting from it! :scratch2:... I just hope I have the right kind of teflon tape. Mine might be too ordinary.

You guys are doing it wrong.

Part 1: Dedicated phase for the audio network with filters, to surpass hairdryers, motors, ovens, AC, etc.
Part 2: Dedicated Audio breaker in the panel:

Part 3: Dedicated line to the wall outlet
Part 4: Wall outlet itself

Otherwise, just useing a wall outlet is not going to work. You could just gold plate your existing one.

the tape is rolling...

I brought all my teflon tape rolls into my den, expecting to do the outlet prong tweak, but decided to enjoy some Scriabin first.
How surprised I was to discover nuances in the music never before present!
Much experiment followed and I can assure you that the outlet prong tweak only scratched the surface!! The more rolls of tape I brought in the room, the better my system sounded until the 277th roll, where the effect topped out.
Dispursing them to the corners of the space expanded the sound-stage, while building pyramids atop equipment seemed to increase punch and focus.
I can't wait till tonight to continue tweeking-this could become addictive!

Understood about the sarcasm getting heavy in here.

I have left this thread open because it is interesting and doing well. However, if I have no issue pruning away any threadcraps that come along. If you are seriously interested in the subject matter, feel free to post any thoughts or questions you may have. If you are just coming here to mock, take it elsewhere. There is no need for it here and it will not be appreciated.

Everyone else, keep up the good work in an interesting thread.
