Love the Tabasco chipotle sauce, but picking the "best" is like trying to pick the "best" guitar player....it's a matter of personal taste.

Hey...worst case scenario, this thread gives me umpteen more good hot sauces to try...thats a win:win in my book...;)

Yep... I got the perfect one... but you can't buy it anywhere.... but I can get my hands on some...

There is this cuban place in the food court in the building I work in. The guy there makes this habinaro sauce.. it's kind of pinkish, insanely hot, and has the wildest greatest sweet flavor I've ever tasted...

I never can get enough of it...

If you are a fan of Chipotle sauces then please do yourself a favor and check out Golden Toad Chipotle Pepper Sauce. I'm not a huge fan of the Chipotle flavor but this stuff is amazing. I use it on just about anything. Golden Toads other products are just as good.

In the "table sauce" department I like Green Tabasco, Siracha and Cholula.

Dat'l-Do-It Devil Drops. Mmmmmm!

Chipotle...I make my own, and the heat varies from incendiary to Armageddon-like. Not on purpose mind you. I know a guy with an organic truck farm, and in the fall he gets tired of harvesting and we go in to glean. There are huge fat red Jalepenos on the plants, and I pick a bagfull and put em in the smoker for a couple hours. Sometimes I put sweet red peppers in to tame it. Run em through the tomato squeezer attachment on the Kitchen Aid to remove seeds and stems, then blend with salt, vinegar and water. Voila. I've made a gallon at a time before, which ought to be classified as a WMD. A tablespoon can heat up a whole pot of Texas chili.

Melinda's Extra Hot Habanero has the greatest flavor... I love that stuff. Its more versatile than other hot sauces, too.

Just for "shits and giggles" (pun intended)...the hottest hot sauce I have ever tried was Hard Time. That stuff is beyond ridiculous. Having lived for ten years in Albuquerque New Mexico, and being a three time attendee of the Fiery Foods Show there, I have tried lotsa sauces, and that one was borderline hallucinagenic...:smoke:

Marantz,

I believe you on the taste aspect of the chipotle, even tho I haven't tried it (but I will). Awhile back, I was in the store replacing my 'original' Tabasco sauce. I wasn't paying attention to the label, and ended up buying the 'Habanero' sauce. When I tried it at home, I found the 'Habanero' sauce to taste sweeter than the 'original'. I just need to use a little less of it than the 'original'. I'm happy!

My favourite is not available in stores, but from the kitchen of a good friend of mine.

The hottest sauce I ever tasted came from the kitchen of a Punjabi neighbour of mine, who grew his own peppers from seed stock he smuggled, uh... imported from back home. Little round, purple, almost black, nuclear WMDs, that made me gasp for air, and almost stopped my heart. Never experienced anything like that. Delicious sauce, but you had better have a steady and light hand, when you pour.
