The Name Game ~ Shirley Ellis

Shirley!
Shirley, Shirley bo Birley Bonana fanna fo Firley
Fee fy mo Mirley, Shirley!

Lincoln!
Lincoln, Lincoln bo Bincoln Bonana fanna fo Fincoln
Fee fy mo Mincoln, Lincoln!

Come on everybody!
I say now let's play a game
I betcha I can make a rhyme out of anybody's name
The first letter of the name, I treat it like it wasn't there
But a B or an F or an M will appear
And then I say bo add a B then I say the name and Bonana fanna and a
fo
And then I say the name again with an F very plain
and a fee fy and a mo
And then I say the name again with an M this time
and there isn't any name that I can't rhyme

Arnold!
Arnold, Arnold bo Barnold Bonana fanna fo Farnold
Fee fy mo Marnold Arnold!

But if the first two letters are ever the same,
I drop them both and say the name like
Bob, Bob drop the B's Bo ob
For Fred, Fred drop the F's Fo red
For Mary, Mary drop the M's Mo ary
That's the only rule that is contrary.

Okay? Now say Bo: Bo
Now Tony with a B: Bony
Then Bonana fanna fo: bonana fanna fo
Then you say the name again with an F very plain: Fony
Then a fee fy and a mo: fee fy mo
Then you say the name again with an M this time: Mony
And there isn't any name that you can't rhyme

Every body do Tony!
Pretty good, let's do Billy!
Very good, let's do Marsha!
A little trick with Nick!
The name game

Shirley Ellis & Lincoln Chase co-wrote this song, Shirley sang it. She had another minor hit, "The Clapping Song"...1964 was a WEIRD time...

(Kid Rock): ".....drinkin' whiskey out the bottle, never thinking 'bout tomorrow, singin' Sweet Home Alabama all summer long..."

I rest my case.

I found it interesting how David Byrne forces (?) a rhyme in the Talking Head's song Big Country. Here is the line;
Look at that kitchen and all of that food.
Look at them eat it : guess it tastes real good.

Journey-any way you want it
she likes to move-she likes to groove? and that's the good part!
makes me change the station everytime!

Plenty of stupid, contrived rhymes. The pompetous (sp?) is just the icing on this cake of crap.

Icing on the cake of crap ! ! ! ! ? ? ? ?

:lmao::lmao::lmao::lmao:

Good but it doesn't rhyme.

And I'm not sure what a pompetous is and don' think anyone does. Dave Barry, columnist, had a lot of fun with it too!

:dunno:

Cold as Ice and Hot Blooded.....by Foreigner
Could of been written by a third grader

+1 on Joker.......I really liked Steve Miller in the 60's and early 70's.....WTF happened to him is a mystery :scratch2:

"do you remember Rick Astley? he had a big fat hit, it was ghastly"

From the song All Men Are Liars by Nick Lowe. Actually I think this is pretty funny.

Speaking of ghastly.

Deep Purple Mark II, who possessed a sublime & occasionally transforming instrumental talent, are known to have set numerous, hideous rhyme schemes to page. I blame Ian Gillan.

How about "They're coming to take me away"? Late 60's. On the 45 the B side was the same song played in reverse.

He is still on tour today. Playing the fair circuit. I liked his earlier stuff, but also like the commercial hits he had in the mid-70's Including the "Joker".
