I can't speak for the Mimir, but it's been compared favorably to the Schiit Bifrost, which plays rather well in my system with 3-way horns.
Worth an upgrade to the new Schiit Mimir?

Asking cuz I still can’t decide on which to choose. I had a Modius, then made the switch to R2R, and I prefer that sound.
If I can get into a “R2R sound” with the Mimir, I will go that route.
I’m hopeful the technology has tightened the gap between the sound signatures, as the R2R is easier to listen to, in my experience.

Also appears you must have FB to change to NOS mode. Anyone try it in NOS? If so, which do you prefer….OS or NOS?

Not mine, but there's a Bifrost 2 MB DAC at eBay. At a great price. Might be worth it.

Personally, if you want to switch off the Schiit MegaComboBurritoFilter, there's no point in purchasing a Schiit DAC. That filter is both frequency and time optimized, and is what makes Schiit DACs special. Leave it switched on. IMO.

I played around with my Mimir turning the NOS on and off, and vastly prefer Schiit's "supermegacombo burrito" filter. The Mimir in NOS mode turns the fancy filter off and uses the output from the equipment's internal DAC.
Why would you buy a Mimir if you're going to turn its filters off?

To make any meaningful comparison you’ll probably need to buy both types and return the one you like least.
I recently purchased a Fiio BR15 R2R for $200 via Amazon with free shipping and free returns. It can function as a preamp, has a remote, switches between NOS and OS and also has a 10 band parametric EQ.
Looks like the Mimir is considerably more expensive at $300 plus shipping and you have to pay an extra $50 for the Forkbeard option to get a preamp function, the ability to switch between NOS and OS and it only has a 3 band parametric EQ. So, with the Forkbeard option, it’s close to twice as expensive.
Schiit allows returns for 15 days but you have to pay return shipping and a 5% to 15% re-stocking fee, depending on the item.

Yep the BR15 is a no-brainer, no risk option. I prefer the R2R sound anyway, so I am putting an order in for a BR.

I’m reading a lot of mixed reviews about this DAC, just like everything else.
One thing that seems to keep coming up is “burn-in”. I didn’t know it was a thing w/a DAC, but I do leave my Denafrips on 24/7.
Has anyone here actually done this, and if so how long and what did you do to achieve it? Just curious so I can give this thing a fair shake.
This will be an interesting piece of gear for sure.

You can leave the DAC on all the time. Set it up, play some music through it. Enjoy.

Although just the dac, I have dimension in spades. If it sounds forward, could the Forkbeard be altering the musical signal after
the dac?

Not really, think of Forkbeard as a "bluetooth remote control"... now if you toggle NOS on and off you are altering the filters (NOS=non over sampling, aka using your units built in DAC, not the Mimirs).
