Would the Denon DVD-2910 be a reliable SACD player? I've had issues with Sony.

I've seen people mention how the Sony players stop reading SACD after a few years and will only play the regular CD format on hybrid discs. There is a Denon DVD-2910 for sale nearby but they're asking more than I wanted to spend. Would this unit be more reliable or will most brands that I find used have the same issue I had with the Sony's?

I had a DVD-3910 and it developed reading problems after a few years. So not sure if there's a really reliable brand.

Had problems also with my 2910 not reading any discs after light use.

I've had a few Sony DVD/blu-ray players and they all stopped working after about 2 years. No experience with Denon's, but I've had good luck with Denon products in the past.

Thanks for the replies! I almost forgot that I wanted to try taking apart the Sony first and seeing if I could do anything to improve the performance. I read one post online somewhere about that working. I also recently managed to fix two receiver remotes that were not working by soaking the PCBs. So now I'm filled with false DIY confidence.

I have a 3910 platinum face for the very rare DVD play. It sits for months sometimes and always works.

I've owned universal disc players & SACD players from several manufacturers over the last 20 plus years (Sony, Denon, Yamaha, Marantz, Onkyo, Cambridge Audio, Oppo). I'm probably forgetting a couple more as well.

While I've never owned any of them long enough to develope disc reading/laser issues, I think it's a roll of the dice to purchase any used one a decade or more old as the risk is going go be relatively high of it having or developing laser issues in the near future.

That is, unless you can find one cheap enough that the loss won't be great or you have the know-how to change the laser yourself.
