Having owned one of these I can tell you it was a very well built amp that sounded really good. Would I pay that? no. Seller would be lucky to get that price on the auction site.
 
Indeed, it is a very nice and well built amplifier--I'd own one, but not at that price (that's pretty much top of the range), but "asking price" and "selling price" are two different things, so you might be able work something out. It is also slightly misrepresented in the ad with the reference to Class A--this was the era of when everyone was building amps that ran in Class A mode for the first few watts, but if you crank it up, you are into Class A/B operation.
 
So bottom line, how high would you go for it? I just bought a Kenwood 8004 that i love but it needs some work. I now have a major addiction to these massive vintage amps with my new Polk RTI-12's. :))

I'd throw out $300-350 after communicating with the seller--you can get a sense of how "motivated" they are to sell, and how "unmotivated" they are to pack/ship and pay Ebay/PayPal fees, just to get top dollar and ending up with the same amount of cash in pocket. I know that I have gladly sold stuff locally for a lot less that top market value (especially big speakers and amps) just to avoid the aggravation, hazards of shipping, and money that I would never see anyways due to the "taxes".
 
A guy at the flea market was asking $35 for one of those about 10 years ago. I offered him $30, which he declined, and I walked away. I still am kicking my own butt over that and the ADS 810s that I walked away from for $20. :whip:
 
I think $300-$350 is reasonable for that amp. I have one and really love it. It has a class A / AB switch. If I recall correctly, in class A it runs up to about 18 watts or so.

At $450 asking price the seller may have it for a while; that price seems even a little high side for eBay. Let us know how it works out.
 
i have one, its sitting in the basement atm, around here i couldnt get 200 for it
it took months to finally accept 100 for my cr 800
so from now on anything "vintage" over 70 a side stays in the keeper pile
 
I had one that wouldn't come out of protection when I got it.Then ran hot,dropped channels,leaky caps.I finally sold it.It was a very nice sounding amp but at the age they are I would assume most are going to need work.Therefore I would not pay that asking price.
 
I have one that needed work, like they all do, and I got it for $175. It needed to be recapped, cleaned, the bulb circuit repaired and new bulbs.
 
The CA 1010 is a big recap job. Just be aware of that if planning to do a restore on one. Beautiful sounding and looking amp though. One of my favourites and I have owed many in it's class.

The recap is easy, amps come out with their boards PS and line stage not bad. The rest of the restore/repair was a bit more. Cleaning the switches after removing them from the board and then finding not one (a cracked board) but two (a broken reed relay) locations for lost channels. It sure was satisfying finding both of those.
