Would you trade 1 of these
Marantz 2238 reciever
Marantz 4415 quad reciever with the SQA-1 adaptor
Nad 3140 amp+Nad Tuner 4020A
for a "working" silver face cassette deck like say a Pioneer CT-F950 and if you would trade what cassette deck make/model would you consider to be a fair trade ?

Nope I wouldn't do that trade. I wouldn't trade any marantz gear for a tape deck unless the marantz gear is either broken or in very bad physical condition. I'm not familiar with the nad units but trading a working amp and tuner for a cassette deck sounds like a lopsided deal as well. Tape decks really aren't that hard to come by anymore since cd's took over. I'd keep looking and do your homework on what one to get and you'll probably be able to get a nice working one for the price of breakfast.

I'd sell each item I was willing to give up then take the proceeds and buy the best condition Deck I could find. If you want a Pioneer the CT-F1000 is the one to shoot for Then 950 of you need metal tape the 900 if not.

Then if, and you will have money left over put that into having the deck serviced.

Sometimes you make a deal from your surplus for something you need. I have traded stuff that was worth a fair amount of money for something that held less value, because of what money I was into the deal.

Any way you look at it, if one of these receivers is a Goodwill $15 special, you end up ahead, as does some else. Love these win-win situations.

All of the units are in B+ or better shape and work save for some lights/the 4415 has wood feet that I made because there were no feet when I got it. I have a Marantz 1060 that I use which is my favorite so even if I trade 1 Marantz I'll still have 2. There are plenty of cassette decks out there but I want 1 that works that has new belts not like the Pioneer CT-F1000 I already have that needs belts/idler ?

I might trade off the 4415 but NOT with the SQA-1 adapter.
The adapter is an easy $50 - $100 or more on the bay.
The 4415 is a good receiver on its own but is a low powered entry level quad unit.
Definitely do not trade the 2238. I don't know the NAD so I can't comment.

I have a working CT-F950 and it is a great deck. I recommend getting it if you can but I would think twice about what you trade.
I can understand why you want a know good working deck though.
I have a CT-F1000 and another CT-F950 that needs new belts and idlers that I keep saying I will get to one of these days. Been saying that for a couple of years now.

That CT-F1000 is a fantastic unit and well worth the effort to get back into shape.
If you need new belts and idlers I recommend kits sold at W J O E RADIO
http://www.wjoe.com/vintageandantiques.htm
His kits not only have the belts, but he supplies the idler tires also. He gives you the supplies you need to do the job plus good instructions.
I suggest getting the upgraded kit with the rubber pulley that commonly goes bad with age.

Geez we're both in Los Angeles "how interesting" lol I have the full kit for the 1000 on order from wjoe. Never having repaired a cassette deck and not knowing if thats all thats wrong with it things could go either way. If I did trade the 4415 the SQA-1 would go with it as I won't deal with "the bay" in any way and I just feel the adaptor should go with it. I like the blue lighting on the 950 btw.

Buy an AK Subscription and poke around the Barter Town forum. You'll find what you want at a very reasonable price.

I promise
