Wow, Blood, Sweat & Tears

aabottom

Swing
At GW, I picked up nearly pristine copies of

1968 Blood, Sweat & Tears ~ Blood, Sweat & Tears
1970 Blood, Sweat & Tears ~ Blood, Sweat & Tears 3

and all I can say is wow, this is great stuff.

Blood, Sweat & Tears is one of the bands I missed in the 20th century. This was an impulse buy, "Hey, I've heard of these guys. It's only a buck forty-nine. Let's try it. I'm glad I did.

They're sort of like Chicago, but they have their own style. I think I'm going to like this. I love the brass and woodwind.

Any comments or opinions?

Thanks for reading.

Im in the same boat as you. I have picked up a ton of the "I've heard of them" albums (Chcago actually being one for me) and found stuff I really enjoyed and have also had those ah-ha moments when a song I like comes form one.

I also have some blood, sweat and tears but have not listened to it.

On the other hand I played some Zappa and know that i will not be doing that again anytime soon.

Outstanding band for sure, I've been listing to and enjoying them since the 70's and they still sound great.

Try Then the Powder Blues Band,Climax Blues Band,Downchild Blues Band and there are more:)

I always said that BS&T was a Jazz band with elements of Rock while Chicago was a Rock band with elements of Jazz. Two of my favorites! :thmbsp:

If you like horn bands, check out Ides Of March.

Just started a new BS&T station on Pandora. Born in '63, I really dig this sound and the optimism shared in the late 60's for peace and prosperity. My mom usually had the radio on to local rock/pop stations so this is the soundtrack of my formitive years.
Flying kites, riding bikes, first kiss, etc.
Love me some flower tunes!

Great stuff, and some of their slower tunes were also very good.

Try "Sometimes in Winter", first done with BS&T, then try Sergio Mendes/Brasil 66 version. Haunting!

Thanks for the replies. Maybe I'll check out the recomendations on Spotify.

I am partial to "Child is Father To the Man" but I think their version of "God Bless The Child" is one of my favorites.

Blood Sweat and Tears along with Chicago are two bands I was totally dismissive of as a youth.

I absolutely love them now!

David Clayton-Thomas is probably one of my all-time favorite vocalists. You hear his voice and there's never a question - it's him! Al Kooper - brilliant producer and good keyboard man but not so hot on the vocals. YMMV.
