KABUKI!

AK search Kabuki for more info, and personally, I would never give more than $50 for those.

You will find considerable negative comment about 'kabuki' speakers. Indeed, I feel the term is meant to be derogatory. I have a pair of X8000's, and love 'em. $150 on the 'bay a few years ago, within driving distance. Just picked up a pair of SP-Z9 II's for half that on the local CL. If you like their sound, you need not listen to anyone else. Other people's choice of gear is their choice, as long as they are part of this community, and are happy with it, I do not offer a (public) opinion. If you want it, it'll be in a pm. :music:

Just because it is considered kabuki doesn't mean it is all bad.I have some kabuki and non-kabuki and like them both.In this case $250 may be on the high side.

I did enjoy the labelling for the positions of the selector switch.

"SOFT'
"NATURAL"
"CLEAR"

Which position do you prefer?

Well said! I have the TOTL SP-X9000's I bought new in '78 and find them to be pretty good for rock music and not so good for other types. Even with their 16" woofers, my Marantz HD-880's produce much better bass with their 12" woofers. The Sansuis are very efficient at 100 dB/1 W. Still, $250 is a little high for these.

250 is high...I have a pair of SP200 from 1968 and a pair of SP1500 from 1970...I picked these up local to me (at the time) in Dallas/Ft Worth TX...I think with driving/gas included I don't have that much money in all four of these...those do look to be in good shape, and I've never heard any of the newer sansui Kabuki specials....but I like my old first generation examples, they have their shortcomings, but they're nice...try to pick up some older ones, I recommend SP1500s ,they have real walnut boxes, no MDF/fake veneer....I think I paid 50 a pair for mine...

I have seen a set's of SP-X9700 go from $250 to $475 on e bay, but ya, look around people trow this stuff away!

Funny thing though I just had My horn tweeters re-coiled on my SP-X9700's and I was only able to get 8ohm coils and not the 12ohm that they are rated at, I also had a set of tweeters done for my SP-5500X's which are 8ohm. I was kinda reluctant about how they were going to sound and that was confirmed when I picked them up and he hooked them all to a signal and all the 12ohm tweeters sounded a bit brassy compared to the 8ohm, but for $10 bucks a piece I will give them a try. got them home, put them back in the box's, hooked them up and, WOW! different story when the cross-over is hooked up with them. Nice detailed tweeter sounds great.

I just wanted to let you guy's know it's ok to re-coil with 8ohm coils if you cant find the 12ohm coils. better then $45 on ebay for used stuff
