Wow- this poor 250

Looks like it was kicked down 4 flights of stairs and then left in out in the rain. If amps could cry...

But it's 40 ohms so definitely worth more. :lmao:

Yeah, but think of the places its been, the things its done, the songs it sang.

Sometimes Rock and Roll ain't pretty.

funny thing is everything but the face plate is salvageable. lots of elbow grease some new lamps capacitors output transistors. this could be a gem again. It really is sad though.

It must have made a very nice boat anchor. Too bad the bottom was very jagged. I wonder if all the sea water has evaporated, as I only see the saline residue.

I'll never understand how a piece of gear ends up like that. Don't people like that have respect for their possessions? I'll answer my own question... NO!

Have another look- input jacks were changed to 1/4', that tells you right there it was a piece of beat to **** road gear- $50 paper weight.

Allow me to change the subject ever-so-slightly:

I have a 2230 that I'm about to re-cap, and the faceplate has a similar yellow discoloration as shown in the 250 photos, although not nearly as bad.

What's the cause, and how can I safely remove it w/o killing the lettering or worse? I know for sure that it's never been around smokers, since it was a gift from my brother-in-law, the original owner. I've had it boxed up since 1987.

I've very carefully tried mineral spirits, citrus degreaser for bicycles, even soaking it overnight in dish detergent. No luck.

Hmmm :scratch2: Devils Disciples keg parties, 10 years service catching stray beer and stomach fluids at Heroes and finally as an anchor aboard the Andrea Gail. What a life!

Now someone should post that magazine ad of the Marantz receiver that went through the house fire and was thrown out the window or whatever. They must have been trying to re-enact it. Mrhardy? You there?
