Now, to think about something to talk about...:D

This is not truly audio-related, but it does concern Yamaha electronics. Does anyone ever recall seeing the Yamaha brand name on a CRT television set? I distinctly remember coming across a CRT TV in a thrift store several years ago that had the Yamaha brand on it. It was a 27-32" set with lots of fancy features, nice stereo speakers, and a good picture. I have always wondered who built it. :scratch2: It may have even been a rebranded Sony Trinitron!

Anyway, forgive me if this doesn't belong here. :yes:

I have an ad in one of my High Fidelity magazines showing a whole Yamaha system with TV, etc.

Ad shows the following -
YM-950 (TV)
YV-1000 (VCR)
R-9 (Receiver)

it has to be a new forum. I use a Yamaha RXV-992 5.1 receiver for my home system.
I get laughed at a lot haha
It sounds just fine to me

In my HT I ran a 992 until supplanted by newer tech, namely an RX-V2400 also then supplanted by something with HDMI, an RX-V3800. Nothing wrong with any of them.

some people just don't realize that Yamaha is high end.

I stopped at Audio Encounters today, to upgrade would cost me $1800, really liked the wireless and usb port in the new yamaha's

I saw the RX-3800 at Audio Concepts. The sales guy said it had a built in gui for wireless so it could grab music files off a computer.
Do you use that?

Just curious as it is priced way out of my league at this time.

The RX-V3800 is an older model. Maybe the RX-V3900? It has Ethernet, but not wireless. Yes, it has DLNA and I can connect to my media server through the wireless bridge I installed in my rack for all my HT gear - RX and DVR and Oppo BDP all talk on the network. The RX-V3900 can also be remotely controlled via a browser.

My "server" is a real W2k3 server in my office a floor away, and as such doesn't run WMP11 so I installed TVersity. It's not as nice as say, XBMC, but it works OK.
