Okay, I profess no football expertise, knowledge or even a mild interest in football, I was a soccer and lacrosse kid in HS, but even a casual observer such as myself, who watched the entire game, knows that on 2nd & goal, you give the ball to your dump-truck running back to punch it over the line, you don't THROW THE BALL!!!! ... 3rd & goal, mebbe .... 4th & goal, nothing to lose.

So, again, WTF!!!

Yep. Butler should have got MVP too. Without that pick, Seattle wins.

He WON the game for the Pats.

Sure but we have all seen Lynch drop the football right on the ground too, there just aren't any guarantees in football. Wilson does a good job of hitting his guy in a crowd. this time the Patriots defense just did their job really well and they won.

I'm still a proud Seahawks fan and they played a good game.

Go Hawks!

Good thing I am not the Patriots coach, I would have called time out to stop the clock and told the defense to let the Seahawks score quickly so that Tom Brady would have 30 or more seconds to try to win or tie the game rather than lose as time expired.

What a good game for both teams with unexpected twists.

So, what if they did run Lynch and the Pats tackled him in the backfield for a 2 yard loss instead of that pass? :)

Then Seattle would call TO and live to try another play.

I have a hard time believing, from the 1 yard line, and with a TO in their pocket, Beast Mode fumbles and Seattle doesn't "will" themselves into that end zone.

I don't think it was neccessarily a bad call... Just fantastic defense. Clock was almost run down, not a lot of time to think.

Unless they stripped him of the ball, or he fumbled, or...

Just sayin' :music:

We can "if" all day long, if he may have fumbled, if he would have walked right in.

What doesn't change is that it was a dumb play to call. Even if it had worked it was still a dumb play call, IMO.

Theoretically, it was a brilliant call.

First, everyone expected a Lynch run, but Lynch had been stopped all day on short runs. If the pass is complete, it's a winning TD. If it's incomplete, you still have two plays, and you've stopped the clock and saved timeouts.

Second - it didn't work, and they LOST!!!!!:D:D:D:D:D

Pete Carroll's explanation for The Call:

Carroll said the call for a quick slant to Lockette was dictated by the Patriots deploying their run-stuffing package.

"We were going to run the ball to win the game — just not on that play," Carroll said. "They had sent in their goal-line people. They had guys on the line of scrimmage. So we thought we'd spread them out with three wides. ... We had three downs and we had a timeout.

If Lynch punches the ball into the end zone on 2nd down, you give NE the ball with enough time to get to FG range for a tie...or worse.

I have also heard that NE worked defending that specific play during recent practices, but were having trouble with it. Apparently, they got it right when it counted.

If the Hawks would have caught the ball the coach would have been called brilliant. It was a great game. The commercials not so good.

And what was the deal with the shark outfits at half time? I thought they looked really stupid.
