A work acquaintance from a previous job was cleaning out her dad's house- she knew I like tubes so she mailed me a care package. Christmas came a little early. Interesting stuff that I can use like 5R4, 6V6, 7189, and more (still taking inventory)- along with 4 RCA 845 tubes. I had never seen one of these in real life......OMG....these things are such beasts! They will make me :)) an awesome headphone amp!

What would you do with these?

The good news is that they'll make a great little 1 or 2 watt headphone amp!

The bad news is that they pull 4 KW from the wall. :D

OOoooo. . .NIB / NOS 845's ??? and FOUR ?

now ya gotta build a giant P/P 845 amp :D

or a SET 845, and keep the other 2 for spares . . .

hey-Hey!!!,
That is a sweet care package...4 NOS 845's is a serious pile of green if you had to go and acquire on the open market. 4 of them is just enough for an RCA MI-9355 amp...though that imput trans is not going to be easy to duplicate unless you find a single for Heyboer. A new front end is likely called for.

Now don't go smoke testing a new design with such tubes, get some cheep Chinese for that.
cheers,
Douglas

Those RCA 845's are worth around $500-$700 each. That's a serious gift package she gave you.

I would sell them, buy yourself a nice amp and buy her a generous gift too.
