"WTLC"s?

What is a fair price to pay for a complete pair of these?

I have an opportunity to pick up a pair in original condition. I don't know yet how much service they will require. Assuming that all they need is woofer service, what would be a "fair" price to pay?

What do you Infinity guys think of these?

Regards,
Craig

well, they get nothing but glowing praise from me. nearly the best live music speaker i've heard, especially great at jazz and vocals. cannot put out tremendous amounts of bass, but it goes low. make SURE the Walshes are working without distortion. i just bought a pair of spares and they rarely show up. this will get moved to D&S, btw. i paid $150 needing 4 refoams, and i felt like it was a steal. the last pair went on ebay for $220 plus shipping. people just aren't familiar with them, but pretty much everyone on AK that's heard them has really liked them.

Yup this is a Dollars and Sense question...

I have heard AK'er "88gibson" pair of WTLC's at length. I was impressed.

As to what they are worth, fret over this too long and someone else will buy them out from under you......

It's probably a safe bet the woofers will need a refoam.

Well, I didn't get them.
The ad said they were in great shape and "sound great".
The picture looked "OK".
Got there: out in the sticks, Port Costa, California for those in the know.
They were complete, grilles intact and badges still there.
Lifted one grille, Walsh "OK" a little bend here and there but serviceable,
lifted the second grille and the Mylar cone had been deliberately crushed, ruined.
Aside from the fact that, yes indeed, all the woofers had no foam.
Spider webs and the brand of dirt made it clear that they have spent at least the past 20 years in a garage or semi-outdoor environment.
It still crossed my mind to make an offer; I have a spare Walsh.

When I removed the grilles and bottoms to expose the obviously thrashed drivers, I turned to the guy and asked: "well I wish you hadn't been playing them like THIS 'cause it's not good for them, but they sound GREAT, huh?

He just stared at me blankly, then stammered: "I didn't know how long they'd been like that. I bought these new". Bull sh&t! They looked more like a dumpster find. Still.........

This dude was (3)x my size and looked like he was right out of a psycho prison movie. He lives in an old converted store front. Port Costa is a place were you can go at night and never come back. If you don't drive off the road and into a large hole first.

All in all, NOT a cool night.

I passed.

Craig

P.S.: If you are interested in these for parts or cabs, search S.F. Bay Area "craigslist" for "collums". Good luck.
The seller was prepared to accept $100 for the "great sounding" working pair.
