X-100-3 Safety/Death cap question

Safety caps are required for primary side use these days, but that style looks like a good choice for this one (a noise filter).
 
C4 is NOT a "death" cap. Regular cap C4= .01uf 400vdc. Mouser does not have any X-Y rated caps in stock. including the one listed in post 1 until sometime in Sept/Oct.

WJOE.COM has them in stock. .01uf 400VAC. $.40ea. 10 for $3.50 I haven't checked Digikey, as I can't navigate around in that maze.
 
don't need a safety cap in that spot. Its not connected to the AC primary. No harm using a bog standard 630v film cap in that location.

Why is everyone so stuck on Mouser to the exclusion of DigiKey? DK has 62,866 X1Y1 capacitors in stock.
 
I like Mouser' interface but I used it a lot before I heard of Digikey, so in fairness I can't knock em. I use Mouser because it's what I am comfortable with.
 
Yes. Safety caps are rated for AC Voltage due to them being on the AC side. All the other caps in the unit are DC rated. If you look at cap data sheets the AC voltage is usually lower by 33% to 50% than DC voltage. You should rephrase your question to say "440VAC instead of 600VDC". Some caps will have both AC and DC Voltage ratings, and again VAC will be considerably lower than VDC.

I've got a bunch of older 330VAC X1Y2 caps and they work just fine in tube gear. I figure the voltage max as twice line current then look for next highest voltage safety cap.
 
I changed it to 600 VDC. That particular cap is now out of stock at Mouser and Digikey. I bought a few from Newark.

I went with .01uf which is the value I'm replacing. I don't recall reading that .0047uf is a suitable replacement, but if so it's good to know.
 
I'm finding the safety caps are harder to find on my two favorite sites. For my 500B project I just grabbed the last two 0.01uF Y rated caps of a certain part number at the mouse place. Seems that supply is having trouble. Don't give up though. Y rating is important for safety so you don't energize the chassis.

In terms of using 0.0047uF, you could parallel two of them to get the approximate 0.01uF. As long as they are Y rated that would work just fine.

Yeah, I got frustrated on transferring the circuit to the boards and set that aside. Eventually I'll get back into it but I'm I've just started a 500B which is a more traditional refurb. I'll eventually get back to the X-100-A and finish it one way or the other. For now it is servicable and refurbed to basic capabilities. I can rotate it in when I need or want.
 
Just ordered some Safety Caps from Mouser. Mouser No. : 80-C981U103MYVDBAP Voltage Rating : AC 400 VAC, Type : Safety Standard Ceramic Disc AH Type X1 400VAC/Y1 250 VAC
Does anybody know if the voltage is sufficient for The Fisher 400?
