I found an Xbox 360 with PSU and Video cable, no controllers.
I powered it up and it had the three red lights flashing or the dreaded RROD. I looked online and found several fix methods. I decided on the removing the x-clips and simply bolting the heat sinks to the mother board approach. I bought some 3/16" x 1/2" fine machine bolts and a heap of washers along with some thermal compound. After cleaning up the heat sinks and applying the thermal grease and then bolting them to the mother board I partially reassembled it and powered it up, it was still flashing 3 red rings but it was taking longer for them to come on.
I tried the next step of letting the GPU heat up while keeping the CPU cool for 30 minutes, I had nothing to lose, I let it cool down for 15 minutes and put it back together. Turned it on and it booted fine, I had it running for over an hour and no problems.
I picked up a used controller and a game and it played fine, no problems at all, it even has the hard drive on the side. Some days you get lucky.
