XTZ W10.16 Repair

Hello!

I've had my XTZ W10.16 subwoofer for around 8 years and it has finally given in so I'm looking to try and repair it myself.

A few months ago I started noticing an issue that whenever I turned the sub on, I got a loud buzzing sound that eventually subsided over the course of about 30 seconds. After that the sub functioned normally without problems. Now the problem has gotten worse and the buzzing does not disappear after turning the sub on. Upon turning the subwoofer on, the buzzing starts very loud, and then gets lower in volume until it settles at a constant sound level, but does not disappear which means I cannot use the sub. The buzzing is unaffected by the volume knob of the amp. I've recorded the sound it makes when turning it on and how it progresses to a constant sound level so you can listen to it if you want.

I've taken the sub apart and had a look at the circuit board but cannot find any obvious visible faults. At first I thought it must be the large capacitors of the power supply going bad (despite not showing any swelling or leakage) so I bought two new ones and replaced those. Still the problem remains.

I will upload the sound I previously mentioned along with the schematics of the circuit.

I have a DMM and basic understanding of electronics, though not much experience in repairs.

I think C1 and C2 are the one's he replaced so I mentioned the next in line. Now if he replaced C14 and C15, then I would say check C1 and C2.

He mentioned he replaced the large capacitors so these would be C1 and C2.
 
Update: No success yet

So far I've replaced:
C1/C2(SW)
C5/C6/C122/C123(ASW)
C17/C18/C23(GSW)

The only capacitor of the ones I replaced that was seemingly broken/in bad shape(according to my multimeter capacitance test) was C18.

I havent replaced C14/C15 yet as I dont have replacement parts for it but if people still think they're likely to be the issue I will order them.

I measured the output of the subwoofer and got these values:


120mV AC @ 50hz
15mV DC

Should mention that mains in my country is 50hz.

Also, I'm just guessing now, but one thing that could've caused something to break is that I've never had the subwoofer in standby mode or turned it off, so it has been connected to mains for long periods of time.

So, where do I go from here, any ideas?



Side note: There are a four poly caps on the SW that seems to be missing from the schematic(or atleast not explicitly drawn), see link:

I also checked the bridge rectifier IC and it seems to be in good condition.
 
I just made a big discovery that I'm really beating myself up over having missed before.

R20 (10k ohm), and possibly D8 as well seems to have gotten really hot, take a look at the uploaded image right here:

In circuit measurement of the two components dosnt show any faults though.

You guys recon I just order and replace these two parts or should I look to replace anything connected to those as well?
 
Hi! Did you fix your woofer? Im about to look at mine as well. Different problem on mine. I have realy low volume and i need to max all settings to get some acceptable levels out of it.

Continuing on this old thread. I have the same problem on mine, low volume. Works with gain on max but its still lower than other subs. I bought it second hand and not sure if this is the way it always have been or not. Any remedy?
