If you're ever in Costa Mesa, Ca go to Kean Coffee. Martin Diedrich is a third generation coffee man. It all started when his G'ma inherited a coffee plantation in Antigua. Diedrich's had 3 stores in OC and roasted their beans in the Tustin store just enough so that the supply was no more than 3 days worth. Well Diedrich's went corporate, franchised and lost it's soul (go figure). Martin, totally disenchanted, walked away and the chain imploded. A couple of years ago he open Kean very near the old original Diedrich's on 17th. There you'll find him hand roasting small batches of beans along with his son, Kean working the counter. The combination of enjoying a cup of coffee that good and fresh while completely saturated in the aroma of roasting coffee beans is as good as it gets with your clothes on.
