Yama-amps. Big n' heavy.

I'm a kenwood and marantz guy and still am, but when I got my Yamaha CR-1020 and hooked it up to my JBLs I was like WOW! And then when I got my M-4 (which the guy who had it thought it was broken and I got it for $20!) I was like this is really really great!

The M-4 is on the bench now because it won't come out of protect but hopefully that will soon be fixed since I'm out of school.

So, now you could call me a kenwood, marantz and yamaha guy! LOL

Unplug the amplifier modules one at a time and see if it comes out of protect.

Wish it was mine.

:bat: Oops, wrong movie.

i'd expect the M-60 to be a bit less detailed and a bit warmer sounding, while the M-4 might have a bit more balls on the low end. could sound very nice. if you end up liking the M-4 in both positions, you can always get another M-4 and vertically biamp. i think i know where an extra M-4 is hiding, so PM me on that if you like.

...Neither are running in class A but I did notice the M-4 gets a little warmer than the M-60. Not hot, just slightly warm.

M-4 damping factor is 200, so that's nice for controlling those wayward woofers. Nice metal-case outputs, like bowtie427ss's current avatar, so it handles heat well. But there are more outputs in an M-60 so they spread it around more.

Yes my C-4's get moderately warm. They are upside down but more to the point the ventilation is very limited. Luxman's ultra-high-priced C-1000f pre is upside down too. They claim it has something to do with resonance.

Things have been on hold down there for a while due to higher priorities but I'm hoping to return my attention to this system soon, including acquiring a nice tube pre (if things go well).

Considering just one amp, yeah.

Heck, my Levinson No. 23 is a mere 200wpc and weighs 105 lbs. No doubt there are some room heaters (Class A amps) with much less power yet weigh as much or more.

All that said, more along the lines of the OPs intial post, the recapped and Sony Bond cleaned M-80 I'm using in my bedroom system is a fine-sounding amp, even considering its modest 50 lbs.
