Yes, I’m really enjoying mine. Just got hold of a Canton Plus-S and Plus-C subwoofer (never thought that I’d use such a thing) but it’s a marvelous sound.
Would be good to hear from others what the particular sonic qualities/strengths/weaknesses of this amp are given its unusual circuitry.

I have a pair of Canton Karat 200's that I adore. I would love a sub sat set like you have. One of the things that I love about my Karat 200's is their imaging. Do the Plus-S satellites image well? I would think they must. I have two A-1's. In my opinion these are extemely elegant examples of product design and industrial design. I would rank the A-1 up there with the SL-10 from the design standpoint.

Did you ever get to refurbish your A-1's yet? I know when I did my JDM model you said you wanted to just that.

Not yet. Did my M-4's, now working on my second M-80. I'm playing with REW and a Focusrite Scarlet USB interface to start measuring distortion. I'm glad this thread is going, as I hope to get to my A-1's soon.

I need to learn how to use my HP 8903A distortion analyzer . Right now its out getting calibrated by a calibration firm in NJ. Hopefully it also doesn't need any repair work.

But I may try REW in the mean time. I used it years ago to measure my Home theater room and place my 4 SVS subs in the best location.

Can't wait till you get ti them. I have a couple more to do and revisit the first one I did a partial restore on.

Read that a few times, between the inconsistencies and wading through all the posts I lost focus.
Kindly request that you create a thread with your learnings, kind of "REW/Distortion measurements in a Nutshell" and populate with a simple step by step of what needs to be done. I'm time poor at the moment so difficult to decipher the diyaudio posts. Understand if you are also too busy.

Thanks Athanasios for checking back and confirming the relay swap that improved the functioning. That’s good news for me.
Thanks also for going to the trouble of checking my source options, dreadful for UK inhabitants aren’t they? Will search a bit more and then maybe settle on a Mouser order padding it out with items I don’t need right now but will probably need later..
Certainly agreed that the A-1 is a beautiful piece of design. ‘Electronically’ did other amplifier manufacturers use this kind of circuit design much I wonder (and if not, why not?)
Certainly its reassuringly heavy, need a strong left arm for lifting it.
Imaging and ‘everything’ sounds excellent via this Canton set up.

Without reading through all the posts here, I control my Yamah MX-1 amp thump by connecting and turning on the audio source first, then turning on the amp. Works 100% of the time for me, just not sure exactly why. I have the rear amp left/right adjusters to max as per the instructions.

It works because doing (correct sequence) so gives ample time for the player’s transient response due to Power ON, to reach steady state and not find its way to the output, and get amplified by a hungry MX-1. As long as you power on your power amp last, you won’t get that thump sound. Of course if your player had an output relay (many don’t), you wouldn’t get that thump to begin with.
