Yamaha A-1 Preout Question

If I remember correctly the A-1 has preouts but no ins. Is this preout designed to run another amp along with the internal amp or in replace of the internal amp? My A-1 is visiting Rob and I cannot find a user manual. I know how pre in-out work on other equipment but this one only has outs and I cannot recall seeing a switch for the internal amp.
