Yamaha A-S500 compared to older models

Glad to see this unit getting some love. It's the only modern amp for under 300 that I've really enjoyed. Typically I'm a marantz guy, which is about the opposite end of the spectrum from yam, but it's just so clean and detailed, especially in the upper mids and highs, all while keeping the bass nice and tight. And the phono sections darn good too. Best 250$ I've ever spent that wasn't a 2245.

Anybody heard the higher ups in this series(1000 and 2000)?

Yamaha A-S500, like any other amp not equipped with the “Tape monitor” button or switch, no matter older or not, does not let the user select sources to play/record by means of the remote control while monitoring the recording onto a three-head tape deck or using external sound processors.
Such models as Yamaha AX-397, equipped with the “Tape monitor” function, do.

It uses a Rec Out knob instead. That's how yamaha does it even on the older equipment. Some people think its better than a tape monitor button. Works for hooking up your 10 band equalizer too.

Two selectors on an amp: “INPUT” selector and “REC OUT” selector, let the user record from a source while listening from another. But does this circuit let you select sources to play/record by means of the remote control while monitoring and/or using an EQ?

at Portkula: Not sure about your syntax, but I don't see a tape monitor button on the original remote for the AX-397. But that would be a cool feature to have for a musician recording bits of a practice session in your own living room.

Did I ever say AX-397 had the possibility to engage/disengage “TAPE MONITOR” function from the remote control?
I said that amps equipped with the “TAPE MONITOR” function (“TAPE MONITOR” button/switch) had the possibility to select sources to play/record (any input on the amp except for the input of the monitoring “IN-OUT” group of terminals, occupied by the external sound processor and/or three-head tape deck the user has in his system) by means of the remote control while monitoring the recording onto a three-head tape deck and/or using external sound processors (EQs, compressors etc.), i.e. while the “Tape monitor” button or switch stays engaged.
That amps not equipped with the “Tape monitor” button or switch, no matter older or not, have not. And yours, does it?
