Yamaha AX-550 iffy led lights problem

Hi, I'm new to this forum and hoping for some guidance.

I have a Yamaha AX-550 amplifier which is overall in very good condition and I really like the noise it makes through my Yamaha NX-E100 speakers. There is just one tiny (but for me big) annoyance: the leds on the power, input and volume knobs are iffy. They work, but if I manually move the volume knob they tend to all turn off or get very faint.

I have to wiggle the volume knob or push it to the right or left until it turns on again but it's very fragile and I don't like doing that obviously.

I opened the system up to look at the cables and connectors and don't see anything wrong at first glance, but maybe I'm looking in the wrong direction.

I tried looking at the service manual but it's a bit too technical for me to understand.

Should I remove the front plate and look there?

There is a connector for the volume control. Check its connection integrity and the solder connections on the circuit board for the said connector(s).

A "cold" solder connection could be anywhere on the circuit board that the volume control is mounted on.

Thanks. I will check it out. I know there are 3 white ribbon cables around there, I guess I will try to reseat those and clean the connectors as well.
