My Yamaha AX-596 has decided to stop working.
Playing as normal, slight pop on left chan then silence with protection indicator lit.. due to large DC offset on one channel.
If I can't repair it myself what should I consider replacing it with?
Sending off for repair is uneconomical, it weighs a ton! ( not literally )
I only use the AX-596 as a power amp.
I have tried a Quad 303 which hasn't got the bass extension or speaker control that the Yamaha has.
I have a Denon PMA-255UK which sounds fine and has the bass extension of the Yamaha, but not the guts.. AX-596 100w RMS per channel into 8R.
Do I look for another AX-596 or can someone suggest a power or integrated amp that can equal or surpass the Yamaha.. or even one of those big AV / HT amps as long as I can isolate the power amp from the rest of it.
This may be slightly controversial, but to my ears the Yamaha does an excellent job all round via Mission 733 floorstanders.. the Denon is not bad either.
