Yamaha B-2x Owners

If there is any other B-2x owners out there I want to know how your amps sound compared to other Yamaha amps. B-2, M-2....etc

For some reason, (I don't know if it's just how they are) my B-2x is really heavy in the bottom end. I am using it with a pair of NS-1000M's.

I thought it was the speakers at first but they were never too bassy on other amps. It's to the point I have to turn the bass tone dial right down on the preamp.

Is there something wrong with my B-2x? Or is that just how they are?

What were you using before? Anytime I've used a Yamaha, it's bascially been showing what was there, and in the proportions originally intended.
 
Just so it's here, my response to the thread in VSS:

I think the B-2x is really thick on the bottom end. That was my first impression after swapping it in place of an M-2. It's one of my favs but I haven't heard any of the VFET amps.

BTW Pete, you should be able to delete your thread in VSS although I don't know what the new member/post count restrictions to do so might be.

I have used Lux L-11, several yamaha integrated amps, Yam M-4. All of them were as you say "in the proportions originally intended" except the B-2x

Dunno how to delete threads, can't find any menu's for them.
 
The mid's and hi's are spot on just the big bottom end having concrete floors and brick walls doesn't help either, none of the bass gets absorbed... if you stand in the bathroom it sounds like your inside a subwoofer enclosure.

Not to thread jack but I'm thinking you really need to do something about that. A B-2 would really round out your Yamaha amp collection nicely and I'll bet you'll be surprised at how nice this VFET amp sounds. Too bad you don't live a couple of streets over cuz I'd be right over with one to loan you so you could check it out. :thmbsp: :D

I'm with brutal I have never heard any VFET's either but I read somewhere that a guy compared a B-2 with a B-2x and a MX-2000 and the B-2 come out on top. How well do they run NS-1000's?
 
I see there is a few tech's on AK, does anyone know why the right side of my B-2x runs quiet a bit hotter than the left? That's with the volume levels on both on 4.
 
First thing that comes to mind is there's a problem with the bias. Hopefully it just needs adjustment. :thmbsp:

Is that something I could do or would I have to bring it to a technician? The service manual talks about 'dc balance', 'Idling A class amp' and 'Idling AB class amp' I could check those adjustments do you think that would help?:D

How comfortable do you feel poking around in there? One thing you don't want to do is slip with a probe and blow that beauty up. :tears:

I have just discovered something my B-2x Is the European version 220V 50HZ and I live in Australia where it is 240V 50HZ.

I have been monitoring our power output over the last few weeks (for other reasons) and its sits between 229V & 235V

Could this be bad for my amp?:thumbsdn:
