Long time lurker, first time poster.
I recently acquired a C-50 pre-amp that I want to use as a MM/MC input for my Pioneer SX-1080 running thru my AUX input on the 1080.
I realize that this can be dangerous because I could overload the AUX input so I am taking things very slowly.
I played a record thru the PHONO 1 stage on the 1080 and swapped the record to the TT hooked up to the C-50 and adjusted the PRE volume until I reached an "equivalent" level thru the speakers. I'm inter-connected between the 1080 and C-50 with a good quality 10' RCA cable but I know, with that length, I will lose some gain. I was kind of surprised that I needed to turn the C-50 volume up to about 11:30 to reach equivalent volume with the same record playing thru PHONO 1.
From what I've been able to find on the inter-web, most CD players and DAC's have a output voltage of around 2V. Short of knowing what the output range of the C-50 is, I'm guessing that measuring the voltage with an oscilloscope and signal generator will be my only safeguard. My SX-1080 is in really good shape and I REALLY don't want to blow the AUX board.
