I couldn't believe my eyes when I saw this add come up on Kijijji. The owner told me that he replaced a belt with an incorrect one but everything he says checked out fine. He's giving me the day to test it which I will. Its then going to my repair guy for a proper belt.

I tested it and it doesn't play but I knew ahead of time it wouldn't. I dropped it off at the local repair shop.

Some background on the little known and seemingly rare C300. It is the pro version of the flagship KX-1200. Having repaired and calibrated multiple examples of each model, as far as I can tell, internally, it is identical to the KX-1200 with the exception of the XLR input and output jacks adding a small board to the back panel and it comes with rack ears. It still maintains conventional RCA jacks as well. The front panel printing font and color is slightly different than the KX-1200 and identical looking (but internally different) K-1020. I have gone through a couple of these decks now, and this is my favorite Yamaha cassette deck model due to both its performance, and its subtle different appearance. One other difference is that the C300 is set up for and comes with the RS-C300 wired remote, while the KX-1200 comes with the RS-K12 wireless IR remote. The C300 has the same remote IR sensor built into the front panel as the KX-1200, but wireless remote was not included. Additionally, the KX-1200 does not have the wired remote connector on the back. Although I have not tested this, I see no reason why a Yamaha wireless remote with cassette deck controls shouldn't work with the C300.

I can now confirm that the C300 does work exactly the same as the KX-1200 from the RS-K12 remote. In fact, and I didn't even know this until I tried it, there are a few features possible ONLY from the remote that can't be done at the front panel. Things like music search, intro scan and programming. The C300 is still my favorite non-Nakamichi deck!
