I was thinking of going after this amp, since it's somewhat close to home, and would be a local pick-up. Then I saw that the face has been engraved. :thumbsdn: I have to say that's a deal killer on this one for me.

Yes, I heard back from the seller who noted that he had edited it--nice.

P. Shivers: know how you feel about the face plate...I think Y B-2 bought a CT-7000 with a similar annoying engraving. You MIGHT be able to sand it and buff it (but I understand that the clear anodizing might be at risk).

I have a CA-1000 that I resurrected from shipping damage and it is indeed a sweet little amp.

Well, after some prodding, the seller dropped his price and answered my questions and I have a concept for a slight modification to the faceplate at a local machine shop.

While it won't be perfect on the outside, I think that my workbench will enjoy (and so will I) another amp to clean-up and tweak. It sounds like the cabinet is quite nice and hopefully the innards are as well...the claim is that it functions well.

After working on my other CA-1000...I kinda grew fond of this little amp...it's built like a tank inside, has hinged circuit boards and with the price drop it's FAR cheaper than I paid for my other one (that needed some post shipping repairs...but the seller did give me a partial refund on that one too). At least one of the two might become a keeper with some recapping.

Here's hoping for the best...

I'm the guy that bought this amp. The seller dropped his price due the insurance alpha-characters carved on the front face (I have a concept for dealing with this). This amp arrived today, and after running some "safety" tests and checking the DC Offset (-7 mV at both channels after 15 minutes), I decided that it was time to try some speakers.

Hooked it up to some ol' Yamaha NS-20T speakers that I purchased from Merrylander and cued up a very full sounding jazz/vocal CD (Michael Franks "Rendezvous in Rio"--song, "the Chemistry of Love"--a great test song). I flicked the amp into Class A after a few minutes, turned it up and let it sing!

My, my does this little amp cook! It sounds just beautiful paired-up with these speakers.

Now, it's all opened up on my work bench and I will start cleaning it out and and adjusting the factory settings. I think that it will be a real beauty when it's finished (I don't think that it's ever been opened up). Aside from the "carving" and the amp being pretty dirty, I think that it could be a keeper.

Nice! :music:

Yamaha CA mods...

My CA-1010 is in with a technician for a few mods, any suggestions about adjusting factory settings or other problem areas he might check while it is on the bench?

Thanks!
