Finally I got some time for long-awaited project of LED conversion of gorgeous Yamaha CA-810 and CT-810 couple.
I believe green is Yamaha (and Sansui) color.
Two CA-810 VU meters originally have 4 white incandescent lamps, and 2 were gone, so the rest 2 were very gloomy. I satisfied 100% with this conversion.
CT-810 is different. I feel like Yamaha cut corners in its lighting.
The tuner dial has no lamps whatsoever, thank you, Yamaha for being so cheap in otherwise great tuner. Most people listen music at night and non-illuminated dial scale looks very dark & gloomy to the point that the whole tuner doesn’t look attractive.
I had to address 3 issues:
a) VU meters.
Each VU meter originally has only 1 white incandescent lamp (very dim). And no room for more then 1 LED (unless I destroy originality, which I never do).
b) Dial pointer.
Dial pointer originally has 1 white incandescent lamp that goes through blue filter and the resulting color as rather gray and very gloomy, practically invisible on dark scale.
I replaced it with 3 red LEDs. Mixed with green dial, it creates yellow pointer that quite visible.
c) Dial scale.
Originally, no any lamps at all. Scary stuff.
I illuminated the whole large glass (not only scale portion). I did my best under the circumstances because Yamaha doesn’t provide enough voltage to work with. In reality CT-810 looks better then on these pictures.
