Yamaha CA2010 Reed Relay (RL-6442-H132)

Good Day!

I'm working on restoring a Yamaha CA-2010. I've found the reed relay on the volume control board to be dodgy. In various threads I've seen a suitable replacement is the Littlefuse Inc. PN: HE722A1200. As that part appears to be obsolete and NLA. I went through the search filters on DigiKey and by spec the Littlefuse Inc. PN: HE722A1210 looks pretty much identical.

Now... fair warning, before this unit I've NEVER dealt with reed relays. So, I'm hoping someone here can help.

OR, perhaps there's something more suitable than the above. I'm happy to shoehorn in whatever works.

I've read you can swap out the reeds, which I'm not opposed to but it's definitely a lot of work and a bit risky if I damage the coil. Below is a link for the reeds, apparently:

I've just found the HE722A1210 uses a 'coil suppression' diode, which I'm wagering isn't what I need, though I have no clue.

Since this thread is the place to go for sharing replacement parts for the Yamaha Preamps, I wanted to share my replacement for the reed relays. They are generally pretty reliable being a sealed part, but I had one that seemed to be intermittently making poor contact so I made this:

A simple PCB that fits within the footprint of the original RL-6442-H132 reed relay to adapt a modern DIP package replacement like a Littelfuse HE722A1200

I have, but the Littlefuse reed relay isn't available any more.

Have a look at these. A Digikey possible sub.

The pin out is definitely different than the original but I think it could be remoted to work. On spec, this and the HE722A1200 look very similar.

So... While i did buy a different reed relay, I decided to go the hard way and tear apart the original reed relay and replace the reeds. The work was pretty tiny but it turned out good. With the new reeds it functioned perfectly.
