Yamaha CDX-2020

Blu Falcon

Stoned Ape
I'm picking up a very clean Yamaha MX-2000 and CX-2000 set, which has been one of my dream set-ups as a kid growing up admiring Yamaha components (I have my dad to thank). Besides the sonic benefits, it's very aesthetically appealing and goes with home decor (which is necessary when selling ideas to the wife). The seller also offered up the matching CDX-2020. Couldn't find much feedback on the unit here, but I only dug so far. Any thoughts on this particular CDR?

Congrats on the incredible setup you're about to enjoy ... but why break up the set by not going for all three pieces if they're within your prince range. I'm thinking the CDX-2020 would be well worth the extra even though I've never heard one myself.

I'm actually waiting to hear back from the seller with his asking price. I might just go for it since it's a nice matching set. I plan to pick up the TX-2000 tuner and a PF-1000 turntable if they turn up later down the road as well. Need to find a good cassette deck too.

technically the CDX-2000 would be the matching unit, but the CDX-2020 looks very similar and might even be better.

I would expect the CDX-2020 to be better. :D

However, I expect this story will not have a happy ending... 100V units with questionable condition and stand-in photos don't always work out well for the buyer.

Those that know what I'm talking about will understand (as does the OP now).

:lurk:

Not really, the CDX-2000 was for the AX-2000 setup (also called the titanium setup).

AX-2000
TX-2000
CDX-2000
DSP-3000
MX-55

The CX/MX-2000 setup is a step up, even the titanium units match in design. The CDX-2020Ti would be the matching CD-P, with newer DAC and design (1989).

The CDX-2000 is the smallest player in the CDX-10000 family (10000, 5000 and 2000), 1987 design.

The cassette deck you are looking for is the KX-1200Ti, Yamaha's TOTL from 1987-1993.

I belive this is what you're dream looks like:

Rut Ro......but we dare not speak of it...although we should....hopefully everyone knows what I am getting at! Picture looks awfully like Japanese decor! I speak from experience from "Days of future past".

Yes, indeed. That would be the goal. :thmbsp:

And yeah, looks like I'll be waiting a while longer to start building this set-up. Brutal educated me and I'll be walking away from the deal. Thanks, guys.

The MX-2000 seem to float more around than the CX-2000, so maybe try to get one of those and pair it with a CX-1000 - sound wise it will be the same. The PF-1000 in silver is north America only, they where not sold anywhere else. The KX-1200 wooden sides are costom made, so are the PF-1000.

The "normal" silver PF-1000 can be seen here: http://www.thevintageknob.org/yamaha-PF-1000.html
