Hello everyone. I got a Yamaha CDX-550E here that works fine, but in quiet passages of music that sounds like "tch tch tch tch", kinda in the speed of the CD spinning. I thought it might be the spindle-motor, being noisy, so i put a ceramic-capacitor across it, 0.1µF, i think. Maybe i should have tried a combination of 1µF and 0.1µF. In any case, that did not help at all. So i replaced the motor with a new one. No change again. So i guess it must be something else, picking up noise and sending it into the audio path. Could it be the KSS-210a laser pickup unit? Cause when i bought it from ebay, the seller claimed that he just replaced the laser. That was years ago though and I didn't notice the noise at first, since its not very audible when music at a normal volume is playing, so i can't return the cd-player anymore.
I don't want to mention any other thoughts i have about what it could be, cause that might lead you into a wrong direction, but i can tell you what else i did, that made no difference. I checked that the PCB is properly grounded to the chassis, i resoldered all connections that looked just remotely off and bypassed the variable line out circuit with the headphone socket. The BA15218 opamp for the headphone out was still in circuit though.
The Yamaha CDX-550E still shows the same symptoms. No, the CD is spinning freely and is grabbed properly by the spindle plate and the metal clamp on top. Laser pattern looks normal, theres no skipping, changing tracks is done almost instantly, but yes, maybe the laser somehow picks up the noise, if thats even possible.
At this point, i have no clue what it is. That's why i hope a few of you have some ideas The EFM eye pattern signal was clear and had 848mVpp.
It's not a valuable CD player, but it would be nice if it would work properly again, without weird noises. Thanks guys!
