Yamaha CR-1020 AM/FM tuning dial stops in the center

Hello, I’ve recently bought a Yamaha CR-1020 with two problems with the AM/FM dial. The dial moves from the left to the right, up until the center and then stops moving. And the second problem which doesn’t bother me too much is that the tuner knob is hard to move. I hope someone can help me with those issues. Thank you in advance!

is that the tuner knob is hard to move.

It is gummed up with very sticky greenish old grease. It is between the tuner shaft and the bulkhead bushing. It needs to be disassembled and thoroughly cleaned and some new white lithium grease applied before reassembly..

The dial moves from the left to the right, up until the center and then stops moving.

Perhaps someone has restrung the dial cord incorrectly.

Could also be related to the gummed-up shaft.

Look over the dial cord restringing diagram in the service manual and compare it to your receiver.
