Yamaha CR-1020 issue

Hi All,

I bought a working CR-1020 recently from the original owner (it had been brought up to speed by a shop last year). Cosmetically it's really nice but the wood case had a dried-out look, so I decided to remove the case and put some Howards Feed-N-Wax on it. I did, and it looks much better now. However, after putting the chassis back in the case, the unit powers up but I get no sound. Something obviously happened when I was taking it out or putting it back in the case. I didn't drop it or anything, but it did get jostled a bit when I was putting it back because the thing is so heavy. I'm wondering if the circled wires came loose from the board in the middle of the unit, next to the heat sink? One is gray, the other yellow. If so, that'd probably be a simple solder job? I'm an electronics idiot, but I have an AK friend who is more than capable of that.

Or, maybe it's something else--I'm the last person to ask. Thoughts?

Okay, I found a pick of a 1020 online and I think those two wires may be the problem. It appears gray should go on the left side as you're looking at the board, and the yellow should go on the right?

yes its the wires .

You will not get sound one the left channel. That cable supplies the signal to the left main board. You will definitely want to solder it back.
Can't really see from the pictures if there is anything else wrong.

Thanks, guys. I wasn't getting sound in either channel but I'll ask my pal to solder those cables and hopefully that will do the trick.

Thank you! Much appreciated. Unfortunately soldering those cables back did not fix the problem and the left channel is still out (right channel is working). AKer Joe Nardy traced the problem to the left amp board (both preamp channels are fine). It will be going to a tech.

I'm assuming you checked all the barrel fuses, I think there's 6 (if it's set up like my 2020): 2 on each of the 2 main amp boards, 1 on the relay board (shown in the photo below), and 1 back behind the transformer.
Isn't there a Pre-amp to Main lock-out switch on the back? That didin't get changed I hope.

Thanks for the follow-up, guys. Fuses were checked, pre-out/main-in checked, mode switch is in stereo position, balance control centered. Joe spent some time looking it over and testing some things and wonders if something shorted when those two cables became disconnected and I plugged the unit in again (without realizing that they were disconnected). Both preamps, left and right, are fine, and the right channel is fine so the issue seems to be in the left amp board.

I am no Avionic when it comes to this stuff, so it'll be going to a tech I trust. Last year, a shop replaced some defective capacitors in the power supply and tuner. I will have my preferred tech do a more thorough restoration in addition to fixing this problem. I love the sound of it, and it looks beautiful. The faceplate is flawless and there's one small ding in the wood case.

Who knew removing and reinstalling a case could result in so much excitement?
