Yamaha CR-2040 Questions.....

Hello again.....

I am looking for information about the Yamaha CR-2040 receiver...........

Has the CR-2040, the european model, switchable current?

Does it have the solid aluminum face and knobs like the CR-2020 /CR-1020?

And the most important.......

Is it worth having? Better than the CR-2020, CR-1020; also better looking or as good looking?

It usually has adjustable mains voltage for Europe and this is sort of what it looks like except that I veneered this one in Rosewood. Sound? I like it with the NS-690s.

The only difference is that the euro model does not have the wood edges......

It is solid aluminum the the others before it?

The 2040 is an X-power receiver, and the x power IC is pretty strong, but I've seen some massive power amp failures. Power amps are discrete unlike the smaller 1040, 840, etc. I would recommend one set of speakers, 8 ohm nominal. It is very high performance and has a sweet tuner.

The CR-2040 is a real beauty. It's not much smaller than the CR-3020 as the following picture shows.

Sorry doc but the CR-2040 has a conventional power supply with a single diode bridge unlike the CR-n20s that used a pair of IR paired diodes. The original output transistors were Hitachi 'winged TO-220s' (Think of a TO-220 with the top flange cut off and with 'ears' out each side). These are no longer available but I have rebuilt 2040s using the Sanken flat pack plastic models - the correct part numbers are down in the shop.

Mine is currently driving a pair of NS-690s but for the past year and a half was driving stacked Advents.

The Euro model, like the 2020 has the flush mount case, probably a size issue as it does make the overall width somewhat less.
