Sweet monster of a receiver.

Closest I have ever come to that is my CR-440, which is not quite up to par, but sounded quite sweet.

His comment about the original veneer being painted on is horsefeathers. I have a spare CR-3020 case here that is waiting on the veneer store to find me some matching Macassar Ebony for the sides, the top is fine.
 
Last one I saw, was offered at nearly two grand and it only lasted a few hours... I think these are much rarer than the 1980 or the big Marantzes, but they don't seem to generate as much of a frenzy.

Picked up a CR1020 yesterday for a C-note. Very dirty and a scratched up case... but apart from a few burnt out lamps in really fine shape. Probably the largest power transformer I've seen (outside of the coffee can in my 1280). Nice machines.

Can't imagine either that Yamaha "painted" it's macassar veneer on their top of the line audiogear. If he 's not the first owner maybe another bloke painted on some 'Rosewood' tan over a scratched veneer ...
In the photographs it looks real nice though.
If I hadn't any mathing components I wouldn't mind but that's just my opinion.
Important thing is that it functions allright.
 
I snagged mine for just a bit over a grand, not on eBay (but was a D&S thread that pointed me to it!) Selling point for me was original owner, who was also a pilot, and relatively local. Less than 2 weeks to pick-up day! :banana:

The last one on ebay sold for about $750 plus $100 shipping, but it was in tough shape - pretty banged up case, AM antenna busted... looked to me like it needed $300 - $500 worth of work - more if you try to get the original Macassar veneer I would think. There was also one on Audiogon around the same time I got mine, in (apparently) excellent condition, he was asking $1500 and the ad expired... no indication of a sale, but who knows.

Looks to be in very nice shape - a nice grab for someone on the west coast if it goes for a reasonable price. And that is a pretty TT he has too.

Rosewood does look nice on it, but I like Merrylanders comment... :lmao: "horsefeathers" to the "painted on effect" :lmao:

Another one with the serial number between 1000 and 3000. Still nothing to refute my theory of a production run of 2000 units...

Weird final price though - $1313.18

Went for more than I thought... add shipping, and it's over $1400. These are only getting more valuable. With every one sold, there's one less on the market.

It's a big rig, top of the line superreceiver
Would be nice with a YP-D8 and a pair of NS-1000's
It's a beautiful classic and it will be cherished by it's new owner that's for sure.
What was the newprice in US Dollars?

It was priced (in 78/79 i think) at $1500. And I think you had to order it. I'd love to get some NS-1000's for mine to play sometime... but my budget for the year kinda got used up in the acquisition of the receiver. I'll post it's own thread when I get it - next week! :banana:
 
That seller must have had great taste as his Empire turntable is a very lovely piece as well, boy would I love to get that!

I have the whole 3020, not just the case, but none of the knobs. This was the one that had the tuner PC board broken into three pieces so I etched a new board. I am not too certain that the tuning head is good, so it is basically an organ donor.

Ouch - must have been quite the traumatic experience for it to break the tuner board like that! Ambitious undertaking to etch a new board though. Too bad about the head.
