Yamaha CR-800 or CR-820?

Hi guys,

I have seen in my local classifieds both a CR-800 and a CR-820 for sale. The CR-820 ad says that the lights come on but there is no sound. The CR-800 says everything is working as it should. Is one receiver "better" than the other? Are parts for the CR-820 really expensive? I'd love to hear what ypu guys have to say about these two units.

Cheers!

Welcome aboard Blaze

I'd go with the CR-800.. More power and supposedly working.

I believe neither one uses the dreaded STK modules, which is a plus. The 820 might just need a switch cleaning, or it could have major circuit failures. Parts cost isn't the problem; it's the time, skill and equipment to fix it properly. IMO, you should go for the CR-800. Since it doesn't work, the 820 should be low in cost. Maybe buy it too as something to get fixed in the future?

I agree with the last two posts. The working one is a better choice. If the 820 is not working and you can get a screaming deal, AND you have the skills/tools to fix it, get both, as ConradH said.

Hi, Only for the reason of lighting mount improvements, I would pick a CR 20 series.
Really like my CR 620. I rebulbed it. A tech found couple weak items that he replaced.
Did not spray the control pots. No good reason. He was right there and why not? Gee. :dunno:
Cabinets run bigger. 620 has a bigger footprint than my CR 800.
But yes, you found a working 800. Heck, depending on cosmetics, I'd get both.

Zombie thread alert...
